My students need over-sized books, The Rainbow Fish, From Caterpillar to Butterfly and The Napping House for group read-alouds. The large pages help the students stay engaged in the pictures, and they can follow the word as I read them out loud.

My Students
I have a wonderful class of 3, 4, and 5 year-olds who come from a variety of areas in the city of St. Louis. My students will be focusing on social-emotional growth, character education, building a community in our classroom, and learning beginning academic skills for reading, writing, math, and science. My school uses the Project Construct model, which allows children to learn through exploration, discovery, and guided inquiry. I want to make my classroom a fun and safe place for all of my students to learn and grow!
My Project
Over-sized books are a wonderful way to engage our early readers. The pictures and words are large enough to be seen while sitting at circle time, and the texts are often predictable so that students can help the teacher read along after 2 or 3 times. The large pages are also helpful to teach children book handling skills such as holding the book upright, turning the pages from front to back, and pointing to the words as they are read aloud. My students will love listening to these stories, following the words, and "reading" the pictures during group circle time.
