This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
During shared reading time it is hard for the children to focus when we read an average size book. But when I take out one of our few Big Books to read, they get all excited and can't wait to listen.
I teach 25 wonderful full of energy kindergarten children.
Every day they come in excited to learn. Many of these children do not have the opportunity to be read to much at home, so we try to read as much as we can in school. I like to give them a wide variety of stories to listen to. We read stories associated with our themes, and we also read fun stories each day. The more they are read to, the more enthusiastic they are about learning to read. This is very important in kindergarten as reading and writing go hand-in-hand.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of Big Books for the children to have in our classroom. When I take out a Big Book to read, their eyes open wide and they become the character in that story. With more Big Books in our Library, this wide-eyed wonder will be able to happen more often and you can help me do that. After reading our Big Books, we will even write our own books and the children will take such pride in their creation. They will be an author of a Big Book just like the author we just read.
These children deserve to have the best.
They don't always get that opportunity at home. They are used to hand-me-downs and things that need repair. With your help they can experience a brand new Big Book that we can read together and talk about and learn from. They will not have to read the same Big books over and over again. With your help we can show them that somebody cares about what they read. They will feel the specialness of your donation every time we reach for a Big Book.
