This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are drawn to anything that seems "alive." Puppets make stories come to life, keep their attention, and encourage them to express themselves, as well as help develop basic skills. Through the addition of big books, my students can get a better understanding of expectations of readers.

My students are eager to learn new things and come from a variety of backgrounds culturally and socio-economically.

They love to have stories read to them and enjoy dramatic play. Though many do not have the resources to provide them with the kind of well-rounded background knowledge needed to develop as readers, bringing new ideas to them via the classroom setting has always been my challenge.

My Project

Having a set of big books and coordinating puppets will allow my students to become empowered as readers. They can revisit these classic stories in centers and act them out themselves. By having a photo printer-scanner, my students can write and print their own stories. This will foster a sense of a writer's life as they grow as writers and will engage them in the use of technology.

Preparing our young students for the future includes developing a strong sense of who they are are readers and writers, building self-esteem to move forward as they apply new concepts to different situations, and providing them with a strong foundation in reading and writing.

By contributing to this effort, you will allow my students to grow exponentially and to become the kind of students who will always strive to learn more and teach others what they have learned as well.
