This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are three years old and this is their first experience in school. They are among the first three year olds to attend 3K in the NYC school district. They come from a low income/high poverty neighborhood in the South Bronx, and have not been afforded the opportunities that children in more well to do neighborhoods are given.

It's my goal to provide a classroom for my students that is welcoming, offers opportunities for exploration, and prepares them for future academic success.

My Project

This is the first year 3K is being offered to children in the NYC public school system. We're off to a great start, but our library is lacking.

Big books are an exciting way to show students what reading for pleasure is all about!

My students love to listen to a read aloud. Big books make it easier for everyone to see the pictures and words. The large size of the pictures help children focus their attention and follow the story. Adding big books to our library will allow the whole class to enjoy this experience together.

Big books will enhance our 3K classroom's library tremendously!
