My students need big books and activity kits to ensure that all of them can see the pictures and words as they are being read to, including the visually impaired students.

My Students
I have been teaching in the pre-k inclusion class for 2 years now and am amazed at how much they love being read to. Students that are so small really love having big books to look at. It would be especially helpful for the new students we will be getting for the next school year.
My students are in the 4-5 year age group and come from a small, but growing town in Georgia.
They come from mostly middle class, 2 parent homes. Some of the students have special needs that include autism, visual impairment, speech impairment, hearing impairment and developmental delays. There are quite a few students that come from military families. My class is one of 4 pre-k classes at our school and one of 3 inclusion classes in our district. Our school is K-5 with a population of about 800 students. The pre-k students at our school have very involved parents and we do lots of special activities throughtout the year to enhance student learning and parental involvement.
My Project
The resources I am requesting include a big book kit for math, a big book about changing from a caterpillar to a butterfly and a big book about a cow that oinks. My students love silly stories especially about animals that talk or make the wrong noises. Math and counting are difficult concepts to teach 4 year olds and with the books and manipulatives I have asked for it will make it a little easier and a lot more concrete and hands-on for the kids. The butterfly book will be very helpful in the spring when we talk about new things growing and coming to life.
My students are special needs and regular 4 year olds.
I have found that the bigger the materials are, the more they pay attention. Getting their attention is often the very first step in getting them to learn. Please support this project to get big books into my student's little hands.
