This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students and my and parents long for some normal instruction in reading. They have access to many excellent on line learning programs. These programs do not take the place of real teacher instruction. While it is impossible to put a book in each child’s hands, using a big book during google meets would allow us to share the same story together and discuss sequence of events, cause and effect, author’s purpose, main idea, and supporting details.

My students were so close to mastering first grade reading standards, but the school closures have broadsided their reading progress.

My Project

I will be able to bring my first graders the same great type of literature we shared in our classroom. Many of my students do not have any books at home. Staying safe and staying at home is a huge obstacle in getting good literature into their little hands, I would read my students a big book at our Google Meets Classroom and bring the best literature to them through technology. Students could discuss with each other the big idea, main idea, details, cause and effect and other first grade standards. We could work together, even though we are apart. Remote learning with good literature.
