My Students
My percussion students Rock! They are funny, kind, and most of all, like to challenge themselves with tough new rhythmic stuff all the time. They learn to play complicated etudes, percussion ensemble music, drumline for parades, drumset, bucket drums for assemblies, and more! In just two short years they have become an integral part of our school culture and climate. The students get to experience a wide range culture: from Javanese gamelan to rock-'n'-roll and everything in between.
My Project
Currently, my percussion students play on plastic buckets during class. While good for special songs and occasions, the buckets are extremely loud and not good for teaching certain percussion technique such as rolls. The practice pads, should they be funded by this project, are much better for teaching those skills while reducing the overall classroom volume to levels to those that are better for long term hearing health. Additionally, these practice pads are easy to transport, supporting at home learning and practice opportunities for students that don't have living situations that promote musical learning beyond the classroom.
These practice pads and stands will not only support better learning and develop proper technique but are extremely durable and will last for many years of student use.
