This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Some of our teachers ride their bikes to school. Some of our students will ride a bike or scooter to school as they come to school with their parents. We have had parents ask to leave the scooters in school because they have to rush off to work. We have said no. The same for bikes. This limits the number of children that otherwise would be able to start building healthy biking or scooting habits at a young age.
We want to promote healthy living throughout our entire community, that means not just our school but each of the schools in our shared building.
We have two public schools in our building. We want students from both schools to be able to ride bikes to school and then home from school or straight to the park. We don't want to limit physical activity. This will help build healthy habits. A healthy body, means a healthy mind, and then learning comes easier.
Having bike racks in the school also give us the opportunity to provide a safe place in the building to park bikes when we have family events. This will only be the beginning of what we can do for families and promoting biking (and scooting) in the community.
