My Students
My students are learning Korean as their second language. Most of my students are not Korean. They are learning Korean to fulfill their foreign language credits in order to receive a high school diploma. I also teach second and third generation of Korean Americans.
My students come from all parts of Queens with various economic, education, cultural and language backgrounds.
They learn Korean language, culture and heritage in my class and we need a lot of resources since the city budget is very tight on education.
My Project
My goal next year in my Korean class is to support my students' learning with a culturally rich curriculum. Most of my students are not heritage students so I need good books and many visual materials so they can enjoy the Korean language and culture. Many students struggle to learn a new language but students enjoy cultural lessons; such as cooking, arts and craft, voice over project with Korean movie and etc. I am writing a new curriculum for Korean year 1 this September. If I can get these books, I can assign a reading assignment and learn about Korean culture in the U.S. and Korea. Also, my students need composition notebooks for their daily journal. With your support, we can help my students to become better World citizens to lead our future.
