My Project

Help my students become powerful communicators, critical thinkers, and social commentators through podcasting. With your support, my 8th-grade scholars will gain access to podcasting equipment that allows them to reflect on literature, discuss essential questions from our FishTank curriculum, and elevate their voices on issues that matter most to them and their communities.

My students are bright, curious, and resilient young people growing up in a rapidly changing world.

The majority of them are Black and brown youth from historically underserved communities in Southwest Atlanta. Many of them live at the intersections of race, gender, class, and identity—and they have important stories to tell.

Despite facing systemic challenges, they come to school ready to learn, lead, and speak up. They deserve opportunities to amplify their voices and be heard, not just within our classroom, but far beyond it.

Throughout our ELA units—from All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely to Night by Elie Wiesel, Animal Farm by George Orwell, and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi—my students grapple with essential questions about justice, power, resistance, and identity. With your help, they will be able to host podcasts that analyze themes, characters, and historical contexts. Share their personal reflections in response to literature and current events. Build skills in speaking, listening, planning, and digital media literacy

The tools, podcasting microphones, pop filters, and headphones, will enable small groups of scholars to record high-quality podcasts from our classroom. The whiteboard, markers, and cloth erasers will help draft talking points before engaging in discussions. The vlogging device will record podcasting sessions.

Often, the voices of youth at the margins of society are silenced or ignored. This project is about giving them the mic, literally. Podcasting empowers my students to speak truth to power, build confidence, and become the narrators of their own stories.
