My Project

In today's interconnected world, the ability to understand, appreciate, and empathize with diverse perspectives is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.

For young minds, the journey of discovery often begins within the pages of a book.

Yet, far too often, the bookshelves in our classrooms do not fully reflect the rich tapestry of cultures or experiences that make up our communities and our world. I aim to rectify that imbalance with this project by bringing a vibrant collection of diverse and multicultural books into our classroom, fostering a globally aware generation of readers.

My scholars come from a variety of backgrounds, each bringing unique stories and traditions to our learning environment. While we celebrate this diversity daily, the books available to them present a narrow view of the world. Scholars deserve to see themselves reflected in the stories they read - to encounter characters that look like them, share similar families, and have comparable cultural experiences. When scholars see their own lives validated in literature, it builds self-esteem, strengthens identity, and cultivates a lifelong love of reading.
