My Students
Most of my students are first year, high school students who have mustered the strength and energy to weather a global pandemic and still come to school. They are eager to work and learn to prepare themselves for the next phases of their lives and deserve any and all opportunities we can provide them to make that happen. They are a multicultural group of students who have shown great determination and flexibility given the circumstances of a pandemic-riddled school year.
These students are hungry for the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore the world around them.
Through books and discussion we have been expanding our thoughts and ideas to better understand ourselves and society. Each day is a new opportunity in the eyes my students and myself to make the world a more prosperous and understanding place.
My Project
Many materials and curriculums in ELA classes lack the materials to provide students with a wide variety of aspects on life in America. This is a powerful work with much to offer many of my students.
This book will help me bring further diversity to my classrooms and representation for underrepresented communities.
According to CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.6 my students should be able to, "Analyze a particular point of view or cultural experience reflected in a work of literature from outside the United States, drawing on a wide reading of world literature". With this book, I will be able to bring them that cultural experience.
