This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a new band director at a local high school. This program has been exceptional to work with, but unfortunately, the students do not have literature to work out of. Most subjects have assigned reading literature: English, Math, Science, History, etc.

Band, similar to these subjects mentioned, will only allow students to thrive based on the knowledge that they are retaining and receiving.

For most of the students that I work with, it's their first time trying instruments and navigating band. Band is a place where students should be able to explore and have fun while embracing a fun side that maybe they didn't know existed while learning. Navigating this without assigned literature makes it difficult to ensure that the students are receiving the very best opportunities to be their best selves both as musicians and as individuals.

I have an immense passion for music as well as teaching, in fact, I can't see myself doing anything else. I just want to give these students the same opportunity to find something that they are passionate about as well while feeling as knowledgeable and informed as they can.
