This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a urban school that is filled with wonderful, hard-working students. High-need only begins to describe the surrounding community; over ninety-five percent of the student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Despite this challenge, my students are dedicated and pleasure to be around on a daily basis.
By eighth grade, students are writing multiple essays a month. Many students have computers at home, but their computers do not have a printer or access to the Internet. As a result, this wonderful resource often cannot be used for classroom writing assignments. This has been a source of frustration and difficulty for both the students as well as myself.
I am asking for computer flash drives so students can save their work at home. I would create a log in which students could sign out the drives to use at home and save their work to bring to school. This would remove a major hurdle and frustration for my students and allow them to make the best use of resources that they have at home.
This cannot happen without your generous support. The flash drives would enable my students to become confident writers and proficient Word users. It was also provide them with ample opportunities to practice writing in a way that is expected in both high school and college. These flash drives will provide my students with another tool they otherwise would not be able to afford. Your help could make a big difference in improving the quality of writing that my students produce.
