Better Together--Giving Our Students a Sense of Belonging Through Music

My Project
Our new choir program has grown significantly and we are seeing the benefits of meeting student's needs--but we can do more!
Music classes provide a sense of membership and belonging, giving students a much needed reprieve from the isolation they felt from the effects of COVID-19, and a safe space to rediscover their social and academic abilities without fear of rejection or detachment from their peers.
There are a few materials that would help further our goal of creating a strong choir program at this school:
We use markers and personal whiteboards every day to practice reading rhythms and writing our own music. We use folders and binders to organize and protect our music and materials. There is always a need for cleaning supplies, and they seem to run out as soon as I open a new container. As their teacher, I accommodate to different student needs and supply "fidgets" they are able to check out and use to help focus. We use coloring supplies like colored pencils and markers for projects and presentations--but I often have too few colored pencils, and most are broken or almost too small to work with.
The biggest purchase we need help with, and one I think will make the biggest difference, is the water bottles. Students are constantly asking to go to the water fountain to hydrate, and it takes away from valuable learning time. When I ask why students don't bring a water bottle, many say they do not have one and/or can't afford one. I would decorate these water bottles with student's last names so we could keep track of them, and supply each student with their own. This would greatly support vocal health for the choir as well as save instructional time.
