My Students
My students are at the beginning of their journey in discovering themselves and planning for their future.
68% of our students are economically disadvantaged and are thriving despite dealing with a multitude of issues including learning or behavioral disabilities, unstable home environments, and low academic performance placing them at risk of not graduating- along with just being a teenager!
As 9th graders, these students are taking an introductory course in business and technology allowing them to explore different career pathways.
The business and technology program utilizes both the case study learning method and project-based learning requiring students to work in project teams, analyze business scenarios and develop/recommend business solutions. The program includes local business mentors that provide feedback to the students on both the correctness and authenticity of their work.
My students will become inspired, hopeful and prepared to begin their next phase of the learning but will need some tools to facilitate the kind of immersive experience that will last beyond this school year.
My Project
This oval table will be a collaborative meeting space that will allow students to practice effective meeting management skills, brainstorm, create and present with external stakeholders and each other. The existing cubicles require students to cram into a small space meant for two to discuss, plan and develop short and long term projects. It leaves no space to accommodate external stakeholders meeting with our students for professional development.
Students will be in project teams at the start of school for learning, project development and assigned to local business owners and leaders for mentorship.
This year will be big for our 9th graders, as they will implement the first business club (Business Professionals of America) and its first school store!
