My Students
1st graders are a joy to teach but like the rest of us, they love tech. Interactive whiteboards are one of the newest, most effective tools to come to education since the iPad. This idea uses iPad/interactive-whiteboard-mimicking to do more than just the IA whiteboard and makes it student-centered.
I teach a wonderful group of first graders at a school in Southern California where 40% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 100% of the students receive free breakfast daily.
Our school loves to integrate the arts and technology into our academics because we know that many students get inspired and thrive in an atmosphere where they can explore and have fun too. We are a school of many cultures, and many students speak another language other than English at home.
My Project
If you have ever seen an interactive whiteboard in action in an elementary school classroom, you have seen interactive learning in one of its most efficacious forms. It effectively brings anything that one can imagine to the hands-on experience of maximized learning in the classroom. Students can manipulate electronically-acquired images as if they were actually handling the objects while displaying the process to their classmates - enhancing both shared-learning and public-presentation skills simultaneously - all while enjoying engaging, screen-based learning.

Students will have the capacity to sit in their seats and display learning to their peers as they manipulate the images on their iPad screen for the projected benefit of their peers. Your donation will add yet another 21st century asset to my class whose technology needs are trying to keep up with the world that surrounds us.
