This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 5th graders in an urban school. They are now entering their sixth year in a dual-immersion language program, through which they are attaining proficiency in two languages—English and Spanish.

My students are determined to overcome any obstacles they face in life.

The school neighborhood is in an area of high poverty, and 90% of the students in this class entered school with a primary language background other than English. However, my students will not let their circumstances label them as disadvantaged learners. They continue to make the best of the opportunities they are presented. As a result, they will finish their elementary school career with a strong academic background in not just one, but two languages!

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students learning as they will allow them to design in 3 dimensions. With the Da Vinci 3D Pens, my students will be able to create simple 3-dimensional designs using the XYZ filament. My students will also use the filament in our classroom 3D printer for the fabrications they design in our STEM-based engineering design projects.

The biggest obstacle my students face is an opportunity gap.

These materials will provide enriching opportunities for my economically disadvantaged students. Having access to these materials will give my students access to the technology that will help them integrate creativity with critical thinking skills while also helping to overcome the obstacles they face.
