My Students
My students are from a small, rural school district. We have a high population of learning support students and below grade-level students.
Students are excited about our new reading program this year, but we do not have enough resources to meet all of their needs.
In order to best serve their academic needs, more technology is necessary to accommodate all students. Technology would make the program more accessible and provided needed text to help them to become better readers and critical thinkers.
My Project
Students will use their Apple iPads to view nonfiction and fiction text online. The reading program being used at my school has a digital component, but we do not have the resources to access it. Many students are not reading at the levels of text provided for my classroom, but we have access online to over 600 titles.
In addition to being able to access the titles during small group instruction, students can use the iPads to complete literacy station activities including reading articles at their reading level online and accessing other activities or creating projects.
Having 1 to 1 technology during this instructional time will help students to become better readers and critical thinkers.
