My Students
In today's society, most of the instruction time is focused on reading and writing. In my classroom, this is often the case. Although I try to integrate Social studies and science into the curriculum, it is a struggle. Most children find the text outdated and challenging due to the size of the text.
My students who are located in an urban neighborhood are excited to learn.
Many of them are reading below reading and math level but are receptive to learning if the information is presented in a fun an interesting way. Many of them are easily intimidated by large text and big words. However, they are determine and hardworking. They appreciate education and see the value in getting one.
My students believe in setting both long term and short term goals. They come to school daily to participate in the learning process. They are inquisitive and this allow their problem solving abilities to shine. They require clear and detail directions. They need a model and constant support in order for them to be successful.
My Project
The Time for Kids magazine is a very colorful, exciting and interesting way to present information. Because of the magazine's design, the students will enjoy reading the stories and the interactive activities that goes along with the stories. I will ask the students to use the magazine to support their social studies lessons. Students can use the map section to increase their map skills. They will also use the question and answer section to improve their comprehension. In addition, they could use the opinion section to have discussions and debate. This would teach them to think persuasively. Students will be asked to choose a point and use information from the text to support their position.
The magazine will promote independent reading and thinking. Students will find joy in reading and sharing the information with others.
This magazine will improve my classroom because it will help children become more aware of what is happening in the world.
It will help my students to become better readers and thinkers. This magazine I hope will help my students to develop a lot of curiosity and push them to read from other sources.
