This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students are from a school with limited resources. The music program has no budget, and, yet, we get through the year with donations. My students rehearse almost every day after school to supplement the time they may have during class. Many of my students prefer to stay in the music room before class, during lunch, and late after school.

My students are a mixture of 9th through 12th graders who are eager learners and members of the marching band, drum line, and the beginning bands.

My Project

Constantly using our drums has taken a toll on both our equipment and on our players. Drum carriers have started to fall apart at times beyond repair and our drum set is missing several cymbals due to them breaking. My drummers have complained about the carriers even hurting when being used.

The new drumming equipment will bring life back into our players.

The better the players feel while playing, the more confident they can play. My students would no longer have to spend time wasting trying to repair our current equipment and more time learning their music. Or drum set players will finally have cymbals to use when reading their music.
