Help me give my students educational equality by installing washers and dryers in schools to help remove one small but important barrier to attendance—access to clean clothes.
As the number of students in temporary housing increases, particularly in a low income high school such as ours, our attendance rates go down. Teenagers are particularly aware of their appearance and if their families are struggling in the temporary housing system, they do not always have access to laundry services, which increase the likelihood that they will be absent.
Ultimately, their grades along with their self-esteem suffer and the cycle repeats itself.
If we can provide basic laundry services with the Dryer and Washer that I am requesting, it has been proven to improve attendance and overall student performance.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
