My students are tuneful, beautiful, artful people! We are a PreK-4 school in New York City, and we fill our music space with joy by making music together. We sing songs from around the world, play instruments, move expressively, dance, and create music. Some of my students have even been chosen to sing in state and regional honor choirs! The children I teach are wonderfully creative, and I incorporate activities and assessments to harness that creativity and push them to reach their potential.
This year we are fully in-person, and I need an efficient system for keeping track of my students' data as I travel from room to room.
As a music teacher, I track data such as tonal skills, rhythmic skills, singing, playing instruments, and much more, and I need a one-stop shop to store it all. With your help, I can get an iPad and the app iDoceo to manage all of that information.
My Project
Okay, I know what you're thinking: How could one iPad possibly maximize the success of a whole class of students? Well, with the powerful iDoceo app, it will happen in two ways: one, it will streamline how I record students' grades to allow more time for data analysis; and two, it will empower students to take pictures of their own written work and record themselves singing.
iDoceo for iPad is an amazingly powerful tool for assessments and record-keeping.
I can use a variety of grading scales, take attendance, and store lesson plans. Most importantly, it saves me time! I used to have to walk around with a seating chart and physically jot down grades during music-making activities. With iDoceo on the iPad, I can tap their scores into the seating chart in real-time, and voila! It's all done for me. No more transferring grades to an Excel spreadsheet and creating functions to calculate the average. iDoceo does everything automatically. That means I can use my prep time to analyze my students' scores and decide which interventions are needed to boost their skills.
The students, too, will be using iDoceo in the classroom. I will train them first how to do simple tasks like enter attendance. Students will rotate through the helper jobs so everyone will get a turn. Over time, students will learn how to take pictures of rhythms or melodies they've written during group work, and they will be able to record themselves singing. Having a record of their work in music class all in one place is a precious resource!
Please consider helping us out! With iDoceo on the iPad, I will track data efficiently, allowing me to analyze my students' progress and help them grow even more.
