My Students

I currently teach in the PUPALS program at our middle school. The PUPALS program contains students who have a moderate to severe intellectual disability, typically with a dual diagnosis of down syndrome, autism or multiple disabilities. The PUPALS students function at a toddler to kindergarten level. To meet the students needs, the class focuses mainly on phonemic awareness, number sense and life skills. PUPALS students get most of their interaction with the general education during meals, interaction in the hall and through classroom volunteers. Some of the higher functioning students may attend one elective such as art or choir.

My Project

Our Best Buddies Club strives to build friendships between Special Education students and their peers. The club meets twice a month before school. The Special Education students get to eat breakfast with their General Education peers while doing fun activities such as boardgames, scavenger hunts and crafts.

We would like to wrap up the school year by taking the club on a field trip.

Our plan is to take our group bowling! We need your help raising enough funds for 1.5 hours of bowling for roughly 70 students. We think this will be a lasting memory for all of those involved in the Best Buddies Club!
