Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Energetic, curious and enthusiastic one day; cool, calm and collected the next. This is the life of an 8th grader and I wouldn't have it any other way! Students come from various backgrounds, ethnicities and social economic conditions. They bring various experiences to our classroom and over time, they learn to appreciate, value and understand each other's differences.

Throughout the year my 8th graders will read, read, read, discuss, collaborate, research and write, write, write.

As the year progresses, students will explore a variety of genre to enrich their perspectives . By the end of the year they become a tight-knit group; some will even call themselves a "family". These students learn together, grow together and epitomize the meaning of our country's motto: "E Pluribus Unum"- out of many, we are one.

My Project

As teachers, parents, aunt/uncles and grandparents, we know the importance of a solid education and hard work. We teach, model and read with our young ones in order to help form solid habits. As they grow into adolescents, students continue to need our support in maintaining a positive outlook on reading, just in a different way. Allowing students to read and collaborate with their peers is what is most important to them at this stage in their lives.

By incorporating book clubs into the 8th grade English Language Arts classroom, we continue to show our younger generation that reading is an important part of their continued growth and learning.
