My students need Phonemic Awareness Learning Centers- Complete Set, as well as Alphabet tubs, to assist in developing a strong foundation in their literacy skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are full of enthusiasm, curiosity and lots of energy. For many it is there first time in a classroom setting, but they are eager to learn. They also come from very low income households and all receive free meals. Families here are not able to provide anything extra for their child.
Regardless of their situations, these young children are ready to learn and I want them to feel successful.
My students are also second language learners. So they need to master, not only the language, but the academics. Let's give these young minds a better chance to acquire the foundation that they need to shine.
My Project
Phonemic Awareness is crucial to the learning of my kindergarten students. Without a strong foundation in these skills, they will have difficulty overall. As second language learners, they are also facing the challenge of learning not only a new language but an academic language too.
It is a fact that students who acquire phonemic awareness skills are more likely to feel confident and successful when it comes to literacy.
The materials I am requesting will help build on that.
The Phonemic Awareness Learning Centers will be used during center time to reinforce those phonemic skills needed like counting of syllables, beginning, middle, and ending sounds, and decode closed syllable words. Alphabet tubs can be used to teach the letter and sound with different objects. The objects/realia are not always easy to come by for all the letters in the alphabet so this would be awesome for the students. Being second language learners it will also assist in building their vocabulary too. They can be used not only whole group, small group, but individually too. These materials will assist the students in mastering the skills that are necessary to the building blocks of literacy in a fun and exciting way. Let's help them gain that confidence to be successful!
