This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in an urban neighborhood made up mostly of apartments, outside of downtown Los Angeles. I teach at a Title I school that serves kindergarten through eighth grade.

My students are bright, energetic, and inquisitive learners.

Reading, art, and physical education are some of their favorite subjects. They are all of Hispanic descent and many speak Spanish at home with their families.

I try to give the students opportunities and experiences so they can see possibilities for their futures.

My Project

Our school has a reading program, but it lacks great literature by well known authors. I don't want my students to miss out on classic, rich stories like "Charlotte's Web" and "My Name is Maria Isabel".

I want my students to get immersed in these books and relate to the characters.

I want them to get excited about reading and become lifelong readers. Therefore, I am asking for class sets of these two books so each student can each have their own copy to read in class. There is no experience quite like having your own book to read.
