My Project

Battle of the Books is a wonderful voluntary reading program in which students in grades 3 through 5 read from a list of truly great middle grade titles, curated by the North Carolina School Library Media Association. Next school year will be my 11th year running this awesome program and I am looking forward to hitting the ground running when we get back to school in September. All readers are welcome as there are no financial requirements for being in the program and meeting times are set during the students' lunch break so that it is accessible for everyone. At BES, our team comes together in the fall and we meet weekly in the library with our lunches while we discuss the books, have practice "battles", and form a vibrant community of enthusiastic readers! Then, in the spring, our school team goes to battle! We meet with teams from across the district in an exciting all-day event where we determine which school can demonstrate the greatest knowledge of the sixteen titles. Though only one school team can win the Battle of the Books title, all of the readers who participate are truly winners.
