Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The chompsaws and hot glue guns will provide my students, many of whom are newcomers and English language learners,
with hands-on, visual, and tactile ways to express their ideas and participate in hands-on STEM learning.
Since language can sometimes be a barrier in traditional classroom settings, these tools will allow students to communicate through building, designing, and problem-solving rather than relying solely on words.
Using these materials will help develop their fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, and critical thinking while also fostering collaboration and perseverance. My goal is to create an inclusive, engaging learning experience where all students, regardless of language ability, can participate and thrive.
By providing these tools, I hope to give students the opportunity to construct meaningful 3D projects, encouraging creativity and hands-on exploration. This project will also support social-emotional learning by helping students build confidence, patience, and teamwork skills—essential qualities for adjusting to a new language and school environment.
My students are resilient, hardworking, and full of creativity. Many of them are newcomers adjusting to a new country, language, and school system, yet they bring incredible enthusiasm and unique perspectives to our classroom. As a Title I school, resources are limited, and most students do not have access to materials like these outside of school. Despite these challenges, they are eager to learn and explore through art. This project will give them an outlet to express themselves, build confidence, and develop skills that go beyond language barriers.
