My Students

"Anything is possible" and "the world is yours to explore" are phrases that meet my students visually and orally each day. We are a classroom that believes in making mistakes and LEARNING from those mistakes, because all things are possible with effort and determination.

My students come from varied backgrounds, and yet they are excited to learn.

We are fortunate enough to benefit from smaller classrooms than other schools nearby, thus allowing more individualized attention. We do all we can at this school to encourage hands on and integrative learning using multiple modalities and strategies. I believe a book in hand reinforces the love of pages and emphasizes the world that can be opened up by a book.

My Project

My school is only in its second year of having elementary grades, leaving our library greatly lacking. I want my students to have access to more literature possibilities, than the few we have to offer. Biographies not only provide another great genre to study, but reinforce to students that anything is possible with hard work. Through learning about inspirational individuals, they can understand that these famous people had struggles, as well. Even more so, the biographies of famous childhoods show that these icons were once kids similar to the ones sitting in my classroom now. I get excited over the wisdom my students can gain by having access to such a great resource.

This project will make a difference on so many levels.

The first is it is introducing yet another genre to their literature repertoire. Second, it allows the tangible pages to be readily accessible as a choice for other reading, where choices are not that wide and varied yet. And Last, it provides inspiration for what could be in their own lives by showing what others accomplished and what they overcame. It reinforces their many possibilities!
