Being Active and Moving Helps Us Focus

My students need medicine balls, yoga mats, chair balls, and hand weights to help with regulating themselves and to get physical activity. My students need the toy spin disk to stay active and focused.

My Students

The students who are in my classroom are eager to learn and are creating an image of what school/learning is and should be. Having them all reach out to different ways to learn and different ways to regulate themselves is very important.

They walk in with smiles and excitement glistening in their eyes.

Students are encouraged to work on finding things that work for them and to take charge of their learning. All students deserve these opportunities. I want to give them these chances in my classroom.

My Project

My students worked with an OT and me to see what materials help them learn and be focused. The materials listed helped them to regulate their behavior and remain focused. Students tried all different ways to regulate themselves and then over time listed which ones worked the best. The spin disk and sit on balls will help the most according to students. Using weights helps them get some pressure into their systems.

Students noticed the value of self regulation to help them learn and this requires them to have chances to move.

Moving is very important in our classrooms. Being active is helping feed their brains.
