Behind Closed Doors

My project needs two locking cabinets for storage of science supplies used in experiments by my little scientists.

Getting urban sixth graders engaged in scientific observations is the first step in creating a new generation of scientists. As their teacher, I try to offer opportunities to conduct experiments with a variety of materials.

Having a lack of storage space in the classroom creates a problem. No "Mother Hubbard" syndrome here, the cupboards are full of items to use in scientific explorations. In fact, so full it is impossible to find some items. Not an efficient use of my time, for sure.

Two sets of small locking cabinets will allow a place to store items frequently used for experiments. I will no longer need to empty a whole shelf to reach what is needed! I would like to train a couple of students how to inventory and organize the shelving so that we may have easier access to science materials.

Your generosity will make it possible for us to have a more pleasant atmosphere in the classroom. There would be no more frantic teacher crawling into the closet trying to find the equipment. Students will have a better model for storing and caring for scientific materials.
