I have the privilege of teaching elementary music to k-5th graders at two different schools. That means I get to teach around 900 students each year. Music is imperative to building critical skills for learning and life.
Research shows that music students build new neuropathways in their brains, learn to problem solve and work collaboratively, and learn to persist in problem solving instead of giving up.
We do not have a band or orchestra program, so it is vital that we have an instrument on which students can learn how to play melodies, rather than just rhythm. Students love learning simple melodies on the xylophone, and figuring out new songs on their own. Currently, there are only enough bar instruments for about half a class, which means the students have to take turns, and their playing time is cut in half. Please help me provide the best possible music experience to every one of my kids!
