My Project
My students are very low in literacy this year, far below benchmark. I am a first-year teacher and don’t have all of the resources I need to help them succeed in this area. The fine motor and literacy items that I have requested would help me to use literacy in all areas of the classroom. Helping them with letter recognition as well as strengthening their fine motor skills which are vital for writing. We would use these during morning work as well as small group rotations. Another area that they are struggling in is behavior. As a first-year teacher, I need some materials such as the behavior chart and flexible seating, to help me give the students what they need. The flexible seating will allow them to choose where and how to sit during our instruction time. Some kids do so much better on a floor cushion than in a hard seat at a table. If I have the tools to give them what they need, I’m hoping that their behavior will start to turn around. A calming corner for them to take a break if they get overwhelmed or just need a reset is also vital for them to learn to self-regulate instead of yelling or throwing things. This helps them as well as the other children who will then not be exposed to the outbursts that can cause a tense environment. Children need a calm environment where they feel safe in order to learn. Thank you so much!
