My Project
My classroom would benefit from social emotional materials to help create a cohesive community in which students can be comfortable with dealing with their emotions and interacting with their peers in a healthy way. The presence of a cuddly companion provides a sense of comfort, helping students feel more relaxed and confident while reading independently. This boost in confidence translates into improved reading fluency as children practice with joy. This simple, yet powerful strategy not only fosters reading fluency, but also creates a calming learning environment for our young learners.
My students are hardworking, eager learners who struggle with handling their emotions.
I've requested several social emotional books to promote a positive classroom climate and help students to deal with their feelings. The books will be used in different lessons that address specific issues in the class or help students problem solve. The flexible seating will provide a comfortable small group space for students to cooperate and work together. It will also serve as a space for reading. Student behavior and achievement improve with different seating options to address their various needs.
The stuffed animals will be used as a positive behavior system in the classroom and become Behavior Buddies. Students will receive recognition for their positive behavior and an animal as their buddy for the day. Students will receive a certificate and have the furry friend with them the next school day. The Learning Lion, Happy Hippo, Challenge Cheetah, Cooperation Cat, etc. will all encourage students to be a contributing member in the classroom. Students will also be able to nominate classmates that earned a day with a stuffie. Families will also be notified to share their accomplishment and positive traits with their family. It is a great way to build positive school-to-home
