This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A typical day in my classroom is jam packed with rigorous curriculum and student interactions. My students have limited resources and supplies. I am always giving my students a notebook, pencil, paper, and/or folder, so they have what they need to complete an assignment.
Our district has many challenges and it's our students that suffer the most.
About 90% of our students receive free lunch. Our classrooms lack the basic supplies and materials that we need each day. The teachers also lack the supplies needed to help teach lessons. We are not given any input on the materials necessary for the school year, let alone given materials to assist us in teaching our children.
These materials and supplies are vital to keep my students productive and will benefit our classroom tremendously. My students will be able to come in and have sharpened pencils and pens on their tables along with other supplies needed to write and edit their work. The binders and folders will help keep my students organized. The colored pencils will enable my students to check their work and make corrections easily. The laminating machine and pouches will be used on charts, signs, and student work to keep everything from tearing and wearing out in the future.
The most important lesson my students will learn is that there are people in this world who will help others without expecting anything in return. This is something a lot of them don't usually experience.
