Beginner Instruments for Band Students

My students need beginner instruments like the flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone so that they can stay in band class and succeed, even if they cannot afford their own instrument.

My Students

My students come from various backgrounds, cultures, and countries. Some of the students from other countries came to America within the last year and are still learning our culture, language, and our school environments. Most of them are new to music, but still share an interest in learning how to play instruments and are starting to figure out how music can play a very important role in their lives and positively impact their academic performance in other subjects.

Our program is slowly growing as interest gains in the program, but the need for instruments for the students who cannot afford still continues.

My Project

Many of our beginner students, usually in the middle school years will not be able to stay in the band class due to their families not being able to afford their own instruments. The 4 most common beginner instruments for middle school students are the flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone.

By having more instruments in the band inventory at school, we open up the possibility for these students to stay in band class and succeeded, even if they cannot afford their own instruments.

Even though our instrument inventory is no where near complete, or where it should be for the success of the program, I want to focus on those beginners who are excited to learn music through band instruments, and let them all have a chance to stay in the class by having a band instrument at their disposal.

Even though these 8 instruments on my wish list aren't even to accommodate the need for all of the students who cannot afford their own instruments, this is certainly a great start!
