All students should have the opportunity to be exposed to the classics in children's literature. I am the teacher of 21 first grade students at a school in a high-poverty neighborhood.
My students come from poverty-stricken homes where reading is not a high priority. School should be a place where students can be exposed to imaginative world of children's literature. Our school does not have the funds to purchase all the books that are needed for our children to truly experience the joys of literature. Many of the books my class does have available to them are falling apart.
I am in need of a set of quality books to create a classroom library that will emerge my students in the wonderful world of literature. If my students are able to explore books that they find interesting and exciting it will set them on the right path to reading and developing an intrinsic love for books.
With your donation to this project, students who have to deal with adult responsibilities at a very young age will be able to come to school and escape into fantasy worlds and go on reading journeys through classic children's books.
