Help me give my students the tools to self-regulate. We know that by helping students build their self-regulating tool box, we can support them thrive in any environment and at any age. Help me grow their social-emotional threshold.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My goal is to create a self-regulating corner in my classroom. I want to encourage my magnet high school students to befriend their nervous system and create awareness on how their feelings impact their behavior and overall healthy wellbeing. My students are already so goal-oriented and I want them to understand why befriending their nervous system is so important while they challenge themselves academically. I want my students to feel equipped to tackle challenges in life and to know that they are resourceful and capable in advocating for themselves when they are emotionally regulated.
Our students are high achieving yet many of them have external stressors that impact their moods daily.
I want them to seek validation only in themselves and to have high self-esteem to be able to take on new challenges and work towards their future goals while being able to make space for their feelings. I want to teach them that incorporating just 5-10 minutes of self-care has a major impact in their quality of life. With this help, I can achieve this. I can create an accessible and safe space for their feelings and for their dreams.
