My Project
Here is an alarming fact. Experts say that we lost nearly 50% of our bee population last year. What will happen when all the bees are gone? This STEM based activity is intended to show my students just how important bees are to our environment and economy. Bee habitats and food sources are slowly being cemented over to build stores, restaurants, and houses at an alarming rate.
We must teach our children of the importance of bees and why we must do everything we can to save them.
This project is intended to attract native bees to our area and provide them shelter and food. The garden beds will be planted with pollinator flowers the provide the food and the bee houses will provide shelter. We will conduct routine surveys and count the number of bees we see. Students will get real world experiences on conducting field studies and reporting to local, state, and federal agencies who are studying bees numbers and provide valuable statistics when doing so. We will also study other pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds when possible.
