Help me give my students Bee-Bots. These robots are a wonderful digital technologies resource to introduce students to coding and computational thinking.
My second grade class of twenty-one students arrives each day between 7:20 and 8:10. Most of them love order, have perfectionist tendencies and are many times unwilling to take risks. The students are comprised of middle to low income and all receive free breakfast and lunch at school. All students have backpacks but may lack the daily supplies for success. Our school is located in Montgomery, Alabama, which is the capital city.
I am always striving to build a sense of community within the classroom and provide opportunities to succeed for all students.
Some of the projects I am looking for this year deal with cooperative play, understanding / embracing culture and diversity, creative writing, and reading.
My Project
Bee-Bots are a wonderful digital technologies resource to introduce students to coding and computational thinking. The small robot can remember a sequence of up to 40 commands, directing it to move forwards and backwards, and to turn 90 degrees left and right.
STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators.
These hands on activities teach sequencing, estimation, coding, and problem solving. These programmable robots help students learn algorithms and algorithmic thinking across the curriculum. Whether the lesson is reading, science, mathematics, or social studies; these robots can help to develop logical thinking, while working as a team to solve problems.
After each command, the Bee-Bot beeps and blinks, which allows students to count its movements and follow the sequence of code they develop to ensure its accuracy. This enables students to create simple algorithms while developing their problem solving skills in a fun learning environment.
