Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Due to Hurricane Harvey our school as well as the district has lost funds. This has effect the supplies our principal tries so hard to give our students. My school is located in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. The students must be in a lower income bracket to qualify for pre-k. Many of their parents are either from Hispanic countries or are first generation Americans. It is in the classroom that my four and five year olds first develop their feelings about school, learning how it relates to them. They come in eager and ready to learn about the world around them. They especially love learning through play and art.

My Project

Retelling a story and knowing the components of a story is a important objective in Pre-k. An Ipad would enable my students to retell a story through photos or through creating images of the stories . Creating a story on the iPad and making a sequence mat for the Bee-Bot to travel on is another example of how it can be used in the classroom.

I plan to use the bee bots to help my students become at ease with coding.

We will be able to used them to play/ recognize each others names, the alphabet, counting, making paths and measuring. While they are playing with the Bee-bots the children are interacting and communicating with each other. They are learning how to work in groups by creating mazes and writing down route cards. In the 21 century coding has become a very necessary skill to have. Many college educated adults are now required to have this skill for a basic job. Beebots help our pre-school children learn this skill through play. Coding also helps

reinforce problem solving and collaboration skills.
