Becoming What You Read

My students need 25 copies of "Charlotte's Web" and 25 "Freckle Juice" books so they can take part in reading buddies with fifth graders at our school.

My Students

We dream of being a princess, a super hero who saves the day, or to be flying with Harry Potter. We are what we read...and our students are no different. In order to become something we read, we have to have books to dive into.

My students are all in third grade at a school that teaches approximately 1400 students throughout the year.

We are in California in a little town near the beach. This is the first year for most students at this school site, so I like to engage them with lots of exciting projects.

My Project

My third grade students meet with fifth graders every week for what we like to call "reading buddies". They are paired up with a buddy to read, discuss, draw, and learn about different authors and books. We are currently on our second chapter book of the year, and we would love to have two more to get through by June. We are asking for two different novels to read as a class/buddies. One is a classic for third graders, "Charlotte's Web" and the other is a fun story called "Freckle Juice".

Reading is not only important for the school day, but also a great way to learn about a new place, become a different person, and forget about what is happening in our day to day life.

By having these books, we can do just that.
