My Students
My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They love hands-on projects, challenges, and engaging activities. My students are always eager to read exciting books, play math computer programs, and learn new things.
Many of my students come to me lacking the skills in how to problem solve, work as a team, and respond respectfully .
In the classroom, our district has purchased great programs to help my students, but I believe that students need to see examples on how to treat others in books.
The majority of my students come from low-income families, but that is not stopping my students. Every day they are entering my classroom with a smile on their face and excited about a new day!
My Project
Social and emotional skills are a concept that my students need to grasp. They struggle with how to treat and respond to their classmates. Recently my school purchased a social skills curriculum to use in the classroom, but I feel that my classroom needs more.
One way to teach social skills is through books.
Students need the opportunity to learn how characters in stories respond to situations. I want to use the books in this project to create read aloud experiences for my students where we will discuss the examples and nonexamples in a variety of skills. Once I have read the book to the class, students will have access to these books in the classroom library to refer to the social skills all year long.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
