This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is a barrier-free, Title I funded school, home to over 1,500 students, with over 70 languages spoken. My children are resilient, dedicated, and determined to overcome any obstacles that they may need to overcome to soar to new heights. I am in awe of their perseverance and how they strive to be the best possible. To say that I am proud to be their teacher is truly an understatement.
Our class takes pride in their diversity!
We have over 25 countries represented in our class this year and work hard to honor all cultures. We will be celebrating the Lunar New Year with many books that will be read aloud to the class. We will learn about the many traditions that happen during this holiday. My students are struggling in both reading and writing and at this point in the year they need to start being able to read more difficult books. The videos will be used in small group instruction to model how to decode multisyllabic words so that they can attempt to read our partner Lunar New Year books. The children will use the mentor read aloud book to help them craft stories related to the Lunar New Year. We will have a huge New Year celebration which will include reading New Year's books and they will be reading their writing which was crafted with the mentor text.
