My Students
I have a diverse group of students that I have the pleasure of teaching and learning from. My students come from many different cultures, have a variety of beliefs, and bring a great many experiences to the table.
In addition to being diverse in background, my students represent a large range of academic abilities.
I have students who are already reading on a sixth grade level and I also have students who are still reading at the second grade level. It is a great challenge to meet all of their needs and make sure they are becoming knowledgeable, caring, life-long learners but there is nothing else I'd rather do!
My Project
With "Parvana's Journey" my students will complete a novel study in which they will explore the challenges and beauty of life in another country. During class discussions and within student-led literature circles students will apply reading skills and concepts to dig deeper into the novel. They will share ideas, learnings, and "ah-ha" moments with each other.
In addition to developing their academic skills this novel study will deepen student understanding of cultural similarities and differences.
We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) school and we aim to develop internationally minded inquirers. This novel study will challenge my students to be open-minded, empathetic, and reflective.
