My Students

I have a diverse group of students that happen to be low-income, English language learners in a Title I school in South Los Angeles. In my classroom there are several students with special needs who are mainstreaming that have a variation of ways that they learn best. I have noticed that the array of students that are in my classroom can benefit if lessons can be catered through the use of visuals, auditory and kinesthetics.

My students are eager to learn, share their thoughts and complete activities on a new topic every day.

Although, it is difficult for them to complete these tasks because of insufficient learning aids. Whether it is a lesson on math, science, English or art they are happy to share their newly acquired skills, knowledge and abilities to their peers and parents.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by helping them become more independent. The items I am requesting are visual, auditory and kinesthetic aids that can help students triumph in their learning and future endeavors.

Students face many challenges when trying to complete daily activities in the classroom but learning aids can make the greatest difference.

Transitioning from one activity to the next is a difficult task for some, although a visual schedule placed in front of the classroom can always help them by referring to it. The visual schedule will help students stay on task and be aware of the upcoming activites. A label maker can help my classroom become more organized and accessible for students when they are trying to find materials such as manipulatives, pencils, papers and erasers. When students are completing morning journals, Think-Pair-Share, fluency readings and math classwork problems they face difficulty trying to keep track of time. Therefore, the use of a visual and auditory timers can help students keep track of time while completing their work in a timely manner. Lastly, hand fidgets help keep students calm and collective as they complete task that might give them anxiety or a hard time.

These items will benefit my students become independent, organized and responsible for the future by equipping them as early as possible.
