Becoming Entrepreneurs Through Creating Hands-On Experiences
Help me give my students the opportunity to become entrepreneurs. The Cricut Machine will help them create t-shirts to sell in our school community. This will give them a hands-on experience of designing, creating and selling their merchandise.
I teach Social Studies to middle school special needs students located in Staten Island, NY. Many of my students have Autism and other disabilities and some are economically disadvantaged. Our students are culturally diverse and all receive free lunch. Many of my students love to learn through hands-on experiences. I am collaborating this project with Ms. Melanie and Ms. Sarah, our speech teachers. Our students love to create through hands-on experiences, they are curious, enthusiastic, and take ownership of their creations. We started this project with a donors choose for making American Flag t-shirts. To our surprise our students took on the task of creating their very own shirts. However, students with autism have difficulty waiting and can become extremely impatient. By fulfilling our request for an additional Cricut Machine our students will have the resources to complete their projects in more timely fashion. This project will help our students become entrepreneurs by creating t-shirts to sell as gifts throughout our school.
My Project
This all started in my Social Studies class learning about Flag Day. I wanted to give my students the experience of creating their own flag t-shirt. We were very fortunate to receive a donors choice to cover materials to create the t-shirts. However, waiting for one Cricut machine to become available was a very challenging task for our students.
With your generous help, our hope for the students is to be giving them the opportunity to become Entrepreneurs by creating t-shirts through hands-on experiences and by selling their own creations throughout our school community.
This will give our students a way to earn money and collaborate together on how they want to spend the money they accumulate at the end of our summer school program on August 13, 2019.
