This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Becoming a better writer is not just a science skill, it's a life skill.
My students are from a low socioeconomic area of a large, urban school district.
Most are the first to complete high school, and many have aspirations of attending and completing college. They are motivated, caring, and genuinely interested in learning science.
Many of my students struggle with creating clear, coherent paragraphs. Two years ago I attended a Jane Schaffer writing workshop for science teachers, and implementing this writing method has greatly improved my students ability to communicate.
My Project
My school site currently provides the four colors of ball point pens for this writing style, however, these dry up and wear out in just a semester. By purchasing higher quality gel pens and pouches to keep the sets in, students will be able to write all year long with the original set.
By investing in the physical materials necessary for my students to create quality writing, you are sending a strong message that their ability to communicate in writing matters, and that you want their thoughts heard.
