This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fifth graders in an urban school. They represent diverse nationalities, home languages, family structures, interests, and learning styles.

My students are determined to overcome any obstacles they face in life.

The school neighborhood is in an area of high poverty, and more than 80% of the students in the community entered school with a primary language background other than English. However, my students will not let their circumstances label them as disadvantaged learners. They continue to make the best of the opportunities they are presented. As a result, they will finish their elementary school career with determination and resilience!

My Project

Every student in my class is a member of a demographic that is underrepresented in STEM fields. These materials will make a difference in their learning by providing an engaging, interactive format for learning how to code. With the Kano Harry Potter Coding Kits, students will learn how to code as they build a wand and follow magical challenges, which they will implement on the Fire HD Tablets.

All students need a little magic in their lives!

Life circumstances have prevented most of my students from experiencing magic. These materials will give my students magical opportunities while also giving them access to valuable computer science skills.
